Ohio among the most tick infested in the nation

Ohio Ranks Among Top 10 Most Tick-Infested States, Says Terminix Report
Ohio has been ranked as one of the most tick infested states in the country according to a new report from pest control company Terminix. The report is based on pest management data from 2024, highlights rising tick activity across the country and Ohio landed at number 10 on the list.
Terminix technical service manager Tom Dobrinska warned that the issue is more than just a little problem. “Tick activity is reaching new levels across the country, posing a serious and growing public health threat,” he said. Experts link the surge in tick populations to climate change, with milder winters and longer warm seasons boosting tick survival rates.
Ohio’s placement on the list is largely due to its lush green spaces, especially in the northeast region, which provide ideal habitats for ticks. “Ticks thrive in wooded and brush areas where wildlife frequent,” Dobrinska explained. Additionally, Ohio’s status as the seventh-most populated state contributes to higher reports of tick activity.
California topped the list, followed by of course Florida, Texas, Pennsylvania, and New York. Other states in the top 10 include Georgia, New Jersey, Arizona, and Massachusetts.
Terminix recommends taking preventive measures, such as avoiding tall grass, wearing long sleeves and pants outdoors, and thoroughly checking for ticks on both people and pets after spending time outside. If a tick is found, it should be removed promptly using fine-tipped tweezers and the area cleaned. Proper disposal is essential to prevent future infestations.
